- 1Ekmek kadayıfı bread or thick white bread slices (500g)
- 2Sugar (2 cups)
- 3Water (2 cups)
- 4Lemon juice (1 tbsp)
- 5Butter (3 tbsp)
- 6Kaymak/clotted cream (to serve)
- 7Crushed pistachios (for garnish)
- 8Honey (optional drizzle)
Instructions
- 1Make syrup: boil sugar and water for 10 minutes, add lemon juice, set aside to cool.
- 2Slice bread into thick pieces and arrange in a single layer in a deep oven dish.
- 3Pour half the syrup over the bread and let it absorb for 30 minutes.
- 4Melt butter in a pan, fry bread pieces on both sides until golden and caramelized.
- 5Return to dish and pour remaining warm syrup over. Let absorb fully.
- 6Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour.
- 7Serve topped generously with kaymak/clotted cream, a sprinkle of crushed pistachios, and an optional drizzle of honey.
